India<\/a> cricket star Virat Kohli pulled out of the squad for the first two Tests of the series against England<\/a> for personal reasons.<\/p>\n

The Board of Control for Cricket in India said Kohli, arguably the world's most famous cricketer, spoke to captain Rohit Sharma as well as the team's management and selectors before making his decision.<\/p>\n

He \u201chas emphasised that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention", the BCCI said.<\/p>\n

The first of five Test matches between India and England starts in Hyderabad on Friday (AEDT).<\/p>\n

\"Virat<\/p>\n

\u201cThe BCCI respects his decision and the board and team management has extended its support to the star batter,\u201d the governing body said, \u201cand is confident in the abilities of the remaining squad members to step up and deliver commendable performances in the test series.\u201d<\/p>\n

A replacement will be named in due course.<\/p>\n

Indian cricket broadcaster Harsha Bhogle tweeted: "If someone who is such an avid supporter of Test cricket and so passionately loves playing for India chooses to miss two games, it must be a deeply compelling reason.<\/p>\n

"So let us wish Virat Kohli well, hope this phase passes and that he returns happier."<\/p>\n
