T\ufeffwo-time Australian Open<\/a> winner Victoria Azarenka<\/a>'s hopes of winning the tournament again were sensationally dashed by Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska on Monday.<\/p>\n

Yastremska, who is the only remaining qualifier in both singles draws, defeated the veteran in straight sets.<\/p>\n

Following her loss, a reporter asked Azarenka whether she felt added pressure taking on a Ukrainian player.<\/p>\n

At first, Azarenka, who is Belarusian, answered while seemingly dodging the real intent of the question.<\/p>\n

"The atmosphere was good," she said.<\/p>\n

\"Victoria<\/p>\n

"I always enjoy playing in Australia. I think it was great.<\/p>\n

"The stadium is always fun. I always have so much fun here.<\/p>\n

"Yeah, I wish I could've played just longer here, but it wasn't meant to be."<\/p>\n

While Azarenka cleverly dodged the reference to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the reporter doubled down.<\/p>\n

A visibly annoyed Azarenka simply replied by saying "next".<\/p>\n

\ufeffYastremska was asked a similar question and gave an equally testy answer.<\/p>\n

"Playing against the Belarusian player?" she asked.<\/p>\n

"If I'm going to start talking about it, I think you're not going to like my answers so I'm just gonna say I want to skip this question.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffBecause I think if you're asking this question, I'm sure you know how is it for us, for Ukrainians to play against Russians and Belarusian.<\/p>\n

\"Australian<\/p>\n

"I'm sure you know, so I don't think it's a good way to ask about this question."<\/p>\n

Fellow Ukraine player Marta Kostyuk took aim at the US Open on Sunday for using a Russian flag<\/a> on a match result graphic.<\/p>\n
