T\ufeffhe exit of Iga Swiatek<\/a> from the Australian Open<\/a> has completely thrown open the women's draw, with the world No.1 bundled out in stunning fashion over the weekend.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old entered the grand slam as one of the favourites following an impressive 2023 campaign, in which she won Roland-Garros and the season-ending WTA Finals to reclaim her crown as the world's top player.<\/p>\n

But in a shock turn of events, Swiatek struggled to get past American qualifier Danielle Collins in the second round, before being eliminated in the third round by Czech teenager, Linda Noskova.<\/p>\n

With the pressure mounting on her and many left astonished by her loss to Noskova, the Polish star admitted she had "half checked out" and was ready to return home.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wide World of Sports' The Morning Serve<\/em><\/a>, Aussie tennis great and former grand slam winner Sam Stosur revealed some of the issues in Swiatek's game.<\/p>\n

"It's hard to bring your absolute best every single day," she said.<\/p>\n

"Obviously the top players and world No.1s, their mediocre sometimes is often enough to get through … but I found it interesting that she said she was half checked out and back at the airport already.<\/p>\n

"There's always bits of vulnerability in her game at certain times and I think it showed against Danielle Collins. She got out of that, but could she do it against a fearless youngster? She couldn't.<\/p>\n

\"Azarenka\u2019s<\/p>\n

"I'm sure there's gonna be bits and pieces that she's gonna look back on and think 'where do I need to go and how do I rectify some of my performances'.<\/p>\n

"It's hard to win every week, you're No.1 in the world and you've got the target on your back every single time you step on court. It's not always the easiest position to be in.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Swiatek reached the semi-finals at Melbourne Park two years ago, while her best performance to date at Wimbledon came last year in a quarter-final exit, proving there is still room to grow as her career continues to develop.<\/p>\n
