The fairytale run at the Australian Open<\/a> has come to an end for 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva\ufeff<\/a> – going out in the fourth round at the hands of Barbora Krejcikova, who recorded the 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 come-from-behind victory on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Despite winning the first set \ufeff6-4, as well as beating Krejcikova twice across the 2023 season, Andreeva was unable to secure another victory to advance into the quarter finals.<\/p>\n

It was a whirlwind tournament for the youngster, as she defeated world No.6 and "idol" Ons Jabeur in straight sets<\/a> (6-0, 6-2).<\/p>\n

Andreeva also found something from deep inside herself and pulled off an unthinkable 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5)<\/a> come-from-behind victory in the third round of the Australian Open, defeating France's Diane Parry.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"There is a lot of positive things to take from this trip. My last match was very great. I have beaten my idol (Ons Jabeur) here," Andreeva said post match.<\/p>\n

"I just love Melbourne. I love being here. I love being in this atmosphere. I love playing on these courts.<\/p>\n

"I hope that next year I will be able to be back and play again with this amazing crowd.<\/p>\n

"Today there was a lot of people who was cheering for me. I'm really sorry to everyone that maybe I disappointed you a bit."<\/p>\n

When asked what advice she would give to other up-and-coming tennis players, the 16-year-old was taken aback, shying away from suggestions that she is becoming a young star of the game.<\/p>\n

"Well, I'm sure that if I have to give some advice to juniors … I'm like also kind of a junior, too. I don't think that I can give any advice yet," she said.<\/p>\n

"I'm not a star or something like this. I don't think it's right to give some advice from me.<\/p>\n

\"Australian<\/p>\n

"I think that eventually everyone is going to be here sooner or late if you really want it.<\/p>\n

"If they just, I don't know, fight for it, eventually they will be here."<\/p>\n
