T\ufeffensions spilled over in the dying stages of Sunday's A-League<\/a> clash between Melbourne City<\/a> and Central Coast Mariners<\/a>, with four players booked for their involvement in a wild stoppage time melee.<\/p>\n

In the 96th minute of the clash \ufeffat Central Coast Stadium, tempers flared after an incident between Terry Antonis and Jacob Farrell, leading to players from both sides rushing in for a push and shove.<\/p>\n

The issue quickly escalated however, with the benches from both teams entering the fray and adding to the chaos, which took more than a minute to fully dissolve.<\/p>\n

Despite the match almost being at the finish line, the officials opted to hand yellow cards to \ufeffCity's Antonis and Tolgay Arslan, as well as Mariners captain Danny Vukovic\ufeff, while Storm Roux was shown red after re-entering the field for the altercation after being substituted from the field earlier in the night.<\/p>\n

"They've come from everywhere here," commentator Robbie Thomson said.<\/p>\n

"I spoke about the rivalry, there's no love lost between these two sides. Now the City bench is coming \u2026 this is escalating."<\/p>\n

Phil Moss – the former coach of Central Coast – also interjected and cautioned the referees to tread carefully in the aftermath.<\/p>\n

"Just when you thought the temperature was cooling down, it's gone in exactly the opposite direction," he said.<\/p>\n

"Good luck dissecting all of this, because there were bodies everywhere."<\/p>\n

The hosts managed to hold on for a 2-1 victory thanks to Angel Torres' 88th minute winner, cementing themselves in the competition's top-four, while City's loss sees them drop to eighth spot on the table.<\/p>\n

Mariners coach Mark Jackson praised both teams for attempting to de-escalate the situation, despite the potential for a more serious situation, but did question why Roux was sent off for his part in the fracas.<\/p>\n

"At this moment in time, I don't know," he said.<\/p>\n

"I'll look back on it and assess it from there … emotions run high. Our boys are all in it together. They back each other. Most people were trying to get them (apart) there.<\/p>\n

"Emotions boil over sometimes, both teams are fully committed. I don't know what happened, and I'll look back on it and find out I'm sure.<\/p>\n
