Even before Swiatek&#x27;s exit, only 12 seeded women reached the third round, equaling last year&#x27;s <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/tennis\/french-open\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roland-Garros<\/a> for the fewest at a slam since the 32-seed format was introduced in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We have a deep pool of players who can beat anybody on the given day \u2013 I think that\u2019s what makes them more dangerous,&quot; said <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/tennis\/victoria-azarenka\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victoria Azarenka<\/a>, a two-time champion in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The consistency sometimes can be on and off. No.12 Zheng Qinwen, a 21-year-old from China, is the highest seed there.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from that pair, along with Noskova and three-time major semifinalist Elina Svitolina, others who can make the final are Jasmine Paolini, Dayana Yastremska, Anna Kalinskaya and Oceane Dodin \u2014 a quartet who were 23-63 in grand slam action before this fortnight.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6345248770112\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/pickerimage-103.jpg\" alt=\"Australian Open Highlights: Iga\u00a0Swiatek v Linda\u00a0Noskova\" data-vms-id=\"ref:clrm127u0000e0kqgns6474ac\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So what does it all mean? It&#x27;s hard to make sweeping conclusions based on early-for-them departures by Swiatek, No.3 Elena Rybakina, No.5 Jessica Pegula, No.6 Ons Jabeur and No.7 Marketa Vondrousova.<\/p>\n<p>But it does offer a contrast to the sort of day-in, day-out excellence displayed by Serena Williams, for one, as she compiled 23 Slam singles titles and, even as the end of her career approached, run after run to the finals at the sport&#x27;s biggest tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>And, in this post-Serena world, it offers fans a chance to learn unfamiliar names and appreciate unfamiliar games.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"862c02e0-e876-4399-85dc-74ee9ec5cb73\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/862c02e0-e876-4399-85dc-74ee9ec5cb73-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine celebrates match point in their round three singles match against Emma Navarro of the United States during the 2024 Australian Open at Melbourne Park on January 20, 2024 in Melbourne, Australia. They might also remember she was half of the doubles team that beat the Williams sisters in doubles at the 2022 US Open, Serena&#x27;s last event.<\/p>\n<p>Noskova is in a wave of not-yet-20-somethings making noise in Melbourne. Three 16-year-olds won first-round matches \u2014 the most at the Australian Open since 2005 \u2014 and one, Mirra Andreeva, will play in the fourth round on Sunday on the bottom half of the bracket.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"6c70ed7c-2504-4619-ae53-c43138ae8f18\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/6c70ed7c-2504-4619-ae53-c43138ae8f18-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Mirra Andreeva in action against Diane Parry of France in the women&#x27;s singles third round match on Day 6 of the 2024 Australian Open at Melbourne Park on January 19, 2024 in Melbourne, Australia.
