Hometown hero Alex de Minaur<\/a> is through to the fourth round of the Australian Open<\/a> with victory over Italy's Flavio Cobolli.<\/p>\n

The 10th seed took victory in straight sets, bringing John Cain Arena to its feet with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 win.<\/p>\n

Demon controlled proceedings throughout, marking back-to-back straight-sets wins for the 24-year-old who looked relatively untroubled.<\/p>\n

The Sydneysider wrapped it up in a little over two hours.\ufeff <\/p>\n

Speaking post-match, de Minaur said it took time to get up to speed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I struggled a little bit to find my rhythm throughout the match but I stayed in the moment, I stayed composed, I tried to play some good tennis and it worked out in the end," he explained.<\/p>\n

"The atmosphere over here is something else," he said of John Cain Arena.<\/p>\n

"I enjoyed every second of it. It is a little bit different to RLA (Rod Laver Arena). Took a little bit to get used to, but it was a pleasure to play in front of you guys.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I think the atmosphere is one, for sure. For me, it felt a little bit slower than RLA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I don't know what exactly it was. I was overhitting at stages. I wasn't quite finding my timing. Hey, we move on and onto the next round."<\/p>\n

"Maybe it feels a little bit different," he added, speaking of the year-on-year change.<\/p>\n

"It feels like we're getting to the tail end of the tournament and the matches are definitely going to be very, very tough.<\/p>\n

"I'm looking forward to it. I'm playing some great tennis. I've started the year amazingly and hopefully I can keep it going in front of you guys."<\/p>\n

De Minaur will face one of Sebastian Korda or Andrey Rublev. Korda is the 29th seed while Rublev is the fifth seed.<\/p>\n

American tennis great John McEnroe said the Australian's forthcoming opponent will need to be wary of how little tennis de Minaur has played.<\/p>\n

"Obviously he was the heavy favourite, so there was some pressure to win this, show what he was made of, back-up the top 10 ranking.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffBut as the match progressed, you started to see the separation between a qualifier and a guy who believes maybe he can win this.<\/p>\n

"By the end of it, Cobolli had totally tapped out. He was just – 'This guy's is too good' – and he was in the end. Just a different level in the end.<\/p>\n

"Alex has got to be extremely satisfied with the way it ended and what little energy he needed to burn.<\/p>\n
