Shamar Joseph<\/a> has opened up on his emotions and journey towards the Test cricket arena after claiming a five-wicket haul on debut against Australia.<\/p>\n

The West Indies youngster was the shining light for the West Indies, having dismissed Steve Smith on day one at the Adelaide Oval<\/a> with his first ball in Test cricket.<\/p>\n

Joseph's five-wicket haul was then sealed in the afternoon on day two<\/a>, clean bowling Nathan Lyon<\/a>. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I\ufefft's an amazing feeling right now, only thing left for me is some tears to my eyes, I'm really happy to be at this big stage in Australia and to get a five-wicket haul against Australia means a lot to me," he told Fox Cricket.<\/p>\n

"It's amazing for me, Test cricket is lovely, \ufeffit's just sticking to the basics and enjoy it, the most important thing is to enjoy it."<\/p>\n

Joseph's story has become well known since he dismissed Smith, with plenty of interest into his rise as an international cricketer.<\/p>\n

Growing up in the remote village of Baracara in Guyana\ufeff, Joseph spent his time logging for a living.<\/p>\n

The fast bowler then moved to New Amsterdam, which was the nearest major town, 121 kilometres away from Baracara. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Joseph lived next door to West Indian cricketer Romario Shepherd who introduced him into the Guyana system which was followed by a Curtly Ambrose fast-bowling clinic.<\/p>\n

He quit his job in security to pursue a career in cricket and made his first class debut in February 2023. \ufeff<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old was in a reflective mood after his five wickets, stating how grateful he was for his experiences towards a Test cricket career. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"You \ufefflearn a lot from all those things, working hard, putting a positive mindset towards what you want to achieve in life," he said.<\/p>\n

"Being here today on this big stage against the no.1 team in Test cricket and picking up a five-fa, it's a lot. I can't explain how emotional I am right now."<\/p>\n

Joseph also shone with the bat on day one, hitting 36 in a 55-run 10th wicket partnership with Kemar Roach.<\/p>\n

The youngster's first Test innings wasn't easy though, copping a hit to the helmet early but that only spurred him on.<\/p>\n
