Jannik Sinner<\/a> has put the men's draw on notice at the Australian Open<\/a>, cruising through his second-round opponent in straight-sets on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The world No.4 got the job done against Dutch qualifier Jesper De Jong in less than two hours, recording a 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 victory on Margaret Court Arena.<\/p>\n

Sinner has emerged as one of the biggest threats to Novak Djokovic<\/a> in his title defence at Melbourne Park, but remained humble in his post-match address and paid credit to his relatively unknown opponent.<\/p>\n

Sinner's performance came in better conditions than his tough first-round contest, which saw the Italian star admittedly struggle with the wind \ufeffon Rod Laver Arena.<\/p>\n

His display – and his form throughout 2023 – has earned high praise from four-time grand slam champ \ufeffJim Courier<\/a>, who backed Sinner to continue to challenge the top stars including Aussie hopeful, Alex de Minaur.<\/a><\/p>\n

"The best player right now from Italy is Jannik Sinner," he said on the Nine broadcast.<\/p>\n

"He just won his second-round match, and he has played Alex six times and he has won all six of them.<\/p>\n

"Sinner is aggressive on the forehand and the backhand wing as anybody in men's tennis, and he can hurt people, including Novak.<\/p>\n

"He is the guy who beat Djokovic twice last year. No other player beat him more than once. He did it in the Tour finals and in the Davis Cup finals."<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old is yet to reach a final at a major event, with his career-best finish coming in the form of a semi-final exit at last year's US Open.<\/p>\n

In a light-hearted post-match interview, Sinner said he will continue to hone his craft and even showed off his self-deprecating humour – something that should win over the Aussie fanbase. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I have to make a good process and every day gives me a chance to get better – today I played at a very good level, tomorrow I have a day off to try and practice," he said.<\/p>\n
