The Ronald Volkman saga has taken a dramatic turn with the talented halfback set to seek a third medical opinion in a desperate bid to play NRL<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n

Volkman is in limbo after being released by the Warriors<\/a> to join the Dragons only to be ruled out for the year by the St George Illawarra medical staff with a shoulder injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But Volkman and his manager have not given up on playing this year and are hoping a visit to a leading shoulder surgeon will provide a better diagnosis.<\/p>\n

"We can't say much at the moment other than that we are seeking a third opinion from a top Sydney doctor," Volkman's manager Mario Tartak told WWOS.<\/p>\n

The two clubs are arguing over whose fault the saga – which has seen both franchises turn their backs on Volkman – lies with.<\/p>\n

The Rugby League Players Association<\/a> has become involved in the affair and is hoping to get a resolution in Volkman's favour.<\/p>\n

The playmaker is currently without a club or anyone to pay his medical bills.<\/p>\n

It's been a hell of a week for the Dragons<\/a>, losing new signings Volkman and Corey Allan (knee injury) in the space of 24 hours.<\/p>\n

But another new face is putting a cautious smile on the faces of club officials.<\/p>\n

Former Australian schoolboys representative Hayden Buchanan, who starred in Gerringong's Group 7 premiership win last season, has joined the club and is training with the top grade squad despite being straight out of high school.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old alternates between centre and second row and has been a standout in the Steelers juniors in recent seasons.<\/p>\n

The kid probably won't play NRL this season, although the way the Dragons are losing players before a ball is kicked, stranger things have happened.<\/p>\n

CARNEY RETURNS TO FOOTY\ufeff<\/strong><\/p>\n

Todd Carney turns 38 soon, but the hunger still burns in the 2010 Dally M winner.<\/p>\n

Carney is giving back to the game he loves and is about to saddle up for his sixth season for Byron Bay on the NSW north coast.<\/p>\n

Carney has retired more than once in recent years, but the love of the game has seen him return to the field to pass his experience on to young up-and-comers as captain-coach.<\/p>\n

"I still enjoy training and playing and it's great to be able to pass on my experience to guys on the way up," Carney told WWOS.<\/p>\n

EX-RABBITOH'S GOOD DEED\ufeff<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jason Clark was one of the good guys in his long career at the Rabbitohs – and he's still doing great stuff now he's working for the Bunnies as pathways wellbeing manager.<\/p>\n

Clark recently took his family on a cruise, and proved a hero for a youngster in distress.<\/p>\n

A fellow traveller sent this note to a Rabbitohs<\/a> website talking in lavish terms about Clark's actions.<\/p>\n

"I was on the P&O cruise cruise and want to praise Jason Clark," the writer, known only as Jeff, explained.<\/p>\n

"There was a little lost boy looking pretty sad and distressed til Jason walked up and knelt down and started talking to him.<\/p>\n

"He was trying to find his mum, Jason stayed with him looking through his phone trying to find a number he could call, all the time comforting him.<\/p>\n

"That little boy will remember Jason for a long time. Could you pass this on to the Souths club as it showed what a great man Jason is."<\/p>\n
