Sam Kerr<\/a> has missed out on the FIFA<\/a> Women's Player of the Year award, with the Matildas<\/a> superstar failing to even make the top-three shortlist on Tuesday (AEDT).<\/p>\n

The \ufeff30-year-old starred for both Chelsea<\/a> and Australia during the voting period, which ran from August 2022 to August 2023, culminating at the World Cup<\/a> final last year.<\/p>\n

Kerr helped the Aussies reach the semi-finals of the tournament on home soil, \ufeffas well as leading her club side to a second-straight FA Women's Super League title.<\/p>\n

However, at the official FIFA Awards ceremony, it was revealed Kerr had ranked \ufefffifth in voting on 32 points – equal with Spain's Salma Parelluelo – placing the Fremantle-born striker 20 points behind the winner, Aitana Bonmati.<\/p>\n

Columbia's Linda Caicedo \ufefffinished in second spot on 40 points, while Jennifer Hermoso was placed in third, giving World Cup winners Spain three players in the top-five.<\/p>\n

Mary Fowler and Caitlin Foord were the only other Australians to be named inside the top-16 on the FIFA shortlist.<\/p>\n

It wasn't all bad news for Kerr however, with the Aussie named in the Women's World XI at the event alongside some of the biggest names in the sport.<\/p>\n

Last year, Kerr finished in second spot in the coveted Ballon d'Or voting behind \ufeffBonmati, causing further confusion to her fifth-placed ranking in the FIFA awards. <\/p>\n

Kerr is currently sidelined with an ACL injury<\/a> suffered during a recent Chelsea \ufefftraining camp, ruling her out for the remainder of the domestic season and dashing her hopes of featuring at the Olympics.<\/a><\/p>\n

She shared a post-surgery photo on social media on Monday from a hospital bed\ufeff, as her lengthy rehab process begins.<\/p>\n

In the men's awards, \ufeffLionel Messi beat both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe after his successful switch from PSG to the David Beckham-owned Inter Miami.<\/p>\n
