Nicolas Jarry and Flavio Cobolli could barely be separated in their first round clash at the Australian Open<\/a>. A loose ball ultimately decided one man's fate.<\/p>\n

In the fifth set and on serve, Jarry was on the brink of taking the match to a tie-breaker.<\/p>\n

With the ledger at 0-30 in the Chilean's favour, that quickly became 15-30 after a ball fell out of his shorts.<\/p>\n

It was the second time in the match Jarry had let a ball loose, and so he was penalised by the umpire.<\/p>\n

It proved decisive. An unforced error from Jarry put the scores level at 30-30, sending the small but vocal Italian contingent into raptures.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cobolli needn't do much as Jarry twice fired the ball into the net to gift the qualifier the break and with it the match on the stroke of four hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jarry fired his racquet into the ground in anger while Cobolli dropped his in disbelief.<\/p>\n

Cries of "andiamo" and "bravo" rang out across the court and soon fans courtside began singing Cobolli's name.<\/p>\n

All told, it was Cobolli with victory \u2013 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.<\/p>\n

Jarry came into this year's Australian Open as the 18th seed. It's the third time the 28-year-old has exited in the first round.<\/p>\n

Cobolli is 102nd in the world and just 21 years old. He will face Pavel Kotov of Russia, who sits 64th in the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
