Former NFL<\/a> player-turned-Premier League<\/a> team owner JJ Watt has unleashed on the "truly disgraceful" decision that cost his Burnley<\/a> team full points against Luton Town.<\/p>\n

Burnley held a 1-0 lead in stoppage time in their clash on Saturday morning (AEDT) when Luton's Carlton Morris' header found the back of the net in the 92nd minute.<\/p>\n

The goal was awarded on-field before a lengthy VAR<\/a> check showed Luton striker Elijah Adebayo colliding with Burnley 'keeper James Trafford.<\/p>\n

In commentary, former Ireland international Jim Beglin said he thought Adebayo had deliberately taken Trafford out.<\/p>\n

"It looks like Trafford was on his way to collect that \u2026 it looks as if there's been a deliberate attempt by Adebayo to make sure Trafford keeps out of the way," he said.<\/p>\n

VAR did not direct the referee to have another look, and allowed the goal to stand, triggering a chorus of boos from the home fans.<\/p>\n

Beglin suggested the VAR's decision was "clearly and obviously wrong".<\/p>\n

Following the match, Watt \u2013 who played 12 seasons in the NFL primarily with the Houston Texans \u2013 took to X, formerly Twitter to slam the decision.<\/p>\n

"I'm new to this ownership thing, so if I get fined by the Premier League, so be it \u2026 This is as blatant and obvious of a foul as you could have," he wrote.<\/p>\n

"To miss this on the field AND miss this on VAR is truly disgraceful."<\/p>\n

Watt bought into the team with his wife, former US international footballer Kealia Watt, last May.<\/p>\n

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany said the foul on Trafford was "clear".<\/p>\n

"I don't know what to say to my players \u2013 it's ridiculous," he told the BBC.<\/p>\n

"We'll get up and we'll keep going. It's not even in my nature to complain about this. I don't like this side of me. I told the lads 'I don't know what to tell you'. It's bizarre.<\/p>\n

"Against Nottingham Forest, we had a goal disallowed we got an apology for. It keeps happening. It's incredible.<\/p>\n

"I don't get it anymore. What is this here? There's a clear attempt to stop the goalkeeper getting up."<\/p>\n

Despite being on the right side of the decision, Luton manager Rob Edwards said he would've been disappointed if he was in Kompany's shoes.<\/p>\n

"I think if I'm being honest if it's against me I'd be very disappointed like they are," he said,<\/p>\n

"But if it had been disallowed it would have been quite soft.<\/p>\n

"It's a difficult one. I'm pleased they made that decision, clearly, because it got us a point but I understand their frustrations."<\/p>\n

Earlier, Burnley took the lead after just 36 minutes when Zeki Amdouni scored for the second game in a row. The Switzerland forward side-footed home from close in after good work from Wilson Odobert on the left flank.<\/p>\n

Luton was aggrieved to be behind but it got the point it deserved in the dying seconds at Turf Moor thanks to Morris' header.<\/p>\n

Both sides remain in the relegation zone \u2013 Burnley are second from bottom, four points behind 18th-place Luton and three points ahead of last-place Sheffield United.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both Luton and Sheffield have played one game less than Burnley.<\/p>\n
