Steve Smith<\/a> has revealed the real reason behind his desire to move up the batting order to replace David Warner<\/a> as Australian Test<\/a> opener.<\/p>\n

Smith and Warner both made BBL<\/a> cameos in the Sydney Smash at the SCG on Friday night \u2013 Smith in the magenta for the Sixers<\/a>, and Warner in the Thunder<\/a>'s lime green.<\/p>\n

But speaking while mic'd up during the Thunder's innings, Smith said it was effectively boredom that made him make the change.<\/p>\n

"I've been sat there waiting for a long time and I'm not a good waiter," he said on Channel Seven.<\/p>\n

"So at least when you're opening the batting there's none of that \u2013 you just get out there and get into your business.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"So I'm excited by that prospect \u2026 that's certainly something that I'm looking forward to."<\/p>\n

Smith's BBL cameo turned into a nightmare for organisers \u2013 dismissed off the first ball of the Sixers' innings.<\/a><\/p>\n

The crowd were left stunned as he played an overly ambitious shot from the opening Daniel Sams delivery \ufeffand was caught by Nathan McAndrew in the deep.<\/p>\n

"I don't think Steve Smith has mishit one for the Sixers in two seasons, I can't believe that," Mark Waugh said in commentary for Fox Cricket.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, it mattered little. The Sixers posted 151 from their 20 overs, before the retiring Steve O'Keefe took 3-13 from his four overs as the Thunder fell 19 runs short of the target.<\/p>\n

Warner \u2013 who had earlier been helicoptered into the SCG after his brother's wedding<\/a> \u2013 top scored for the Thunder, but his wicket in the 17th over effectively ended any hope of a lime green victory.<\/p>\n

He made 37 from 39 balls.<\/p>\n
