P\ufeffort Adelaide<\/a> great Kane Cornes<\/a> has slammed the "soft" new edict from the AFL<\/a>, with player weights excluded from the competition's official 2024 season guide.<\/p>\n

The move has been introduced in order to alleviate pressure and stigma surrounding different body types in the sport, and it comes after recent draft prospects weren't forced to undergo regulation skinfold testing at the yearly combine.<\/p>\n

But according to Cornes – who played 300 games for the Power across a 14-year top-flight career – the AFL's decision is an issue that could lead down a slippery slope.<\/p>\n

"Can you believe it? The world has gone so soft. I can't believe it," he said on SEN radio.<\/p>\n

"You're a professional athlete. You're not an influencer on social media. Any other sport I can look that up. I can tell you (Kansas City Chiefs tight end) Travis Kelce was 113kg. His quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, weighs 102kg.<\/p>\n

Rival codes including the NRL<\/a> will continue to display player weights in official profiles, given the differences between positions such as front-row and halfback being a crucial aspect of the game.<\/p>\n

The editor of the official guide, Ash Browne, confirmed the controversial decision on Friday and revealed it was an AFL directive.<\/p>\n

"Yeah it's true … it's a new AFL policy to not reveal player weights \u2013 I'm just a messenger here, by the way," he said.<\/p>\n

"They've decided in this day and age it is inappropriate for weights to public matter. They would say that people support that it's not appropriate to publish weights and that it's private information now."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Cornes would further express his dismay towards the call, comparing the job of an AFL player to other professions.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"They're not accountants, they're not nurses, they're not lawyers \u2013 they're professional athletes," he said.<\/p>\n
