Wallabies great Michael Hooper will not make his sevens debut in Perth this month as the Australian team take "a conservative approach" to his switch.<\/p>\n

After Eddie Jones dumped him from the Rugby World Cup squad last year, Hooper \ufeffdecided to change codes in a bid to win a gold medal in the game's shorter format at the 2024 Paris Olympics.<\/p>\n

After missing the opening two legs of the world series in Dubai and Cape Town, it was hoped that Hooper would be able \ufeffto get up to speed and make his bow in front of his home fans at HBF Park.<\/p>\n

But Australia coach John Manenti has opted to give the \ufeff32-year-old some more time to master his new craft.<\/p>\n

"Michael is working hard as he continues to adapt to the sevens workload," coach John Manenti said.<\/p>\n

"We've decided a take a conservative approach with his transition to the world series and we will look for him to take part in further tournaments later on in the year. We are looking forward to seeing what he can add to the program in the coming weeks and months."<\/p>\n

The Aussie men will take on \ufeffIreland, Great Britain and the United States in Pool B while the women will meet Canada, Great Britain and South Africa in Pool A.<\/p>\n

The women won the opening two tournaments of the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n

"We haven't played those teams in a while so we're excited," women's coach Tim Walsh said.<\/p>\n

"We know how strong they are, particularly Canada, who are quickly improving and definitely a team to watch out for.<\/p>\n

"After a nice break, we're fresh physically and mentally and ready to go after a good week and a half of training. Other than Demi (Hayes) being injured we're at a good fitness level, and we've got a really strong squad to pick a team from."<\/p>\n
