A\ufefflex de Minaur<\/a> has continued his lethal form heading into the Australian Open<\/a>, with a 6-4, 5-7, (10-3) win over Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> on Wednesday night in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Despite it being a charity match with the \ufeffresult not relevant, it was the 24-year-old Australian's first win over the reigning Wimbledon champion, who is currently ranked No.2 in the world.<\/p>\n

It is a huge confidence booster ahead of what is set to be an exciting tournament in Melbourne, with de Minaur now ranked No.10, the highest of his career.<\/p>\n

He adds this unofficial victory to a growing list of upsets, headlined by a stellar United Cup<\/a> tournament that saw him defeat team USA's Taylor Fritz, tennis legend Novak Djokovic<\/a> and world No.7 Alexander Zverev to lead Australia into the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Despite another commanding victory in front of a packed Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday night, de Minaur remains humble ahead of an intense AO schedule.<\/p>\n

His United Cup coach and Australian tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt<\/a> noted how valuable the charity match was in the lead-up the the grand slam, with a fast-paced schedule already in his sights come Sunday.<\/p>\n

"It's probably a little bit quicker than Sydney (during the United Cup) here at the moment, so that's kind of what he's getting to feel out here tonight," Hewitt told Nine court-side on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
