Chris O'Connell\ufeff has become the last Australian man standing at the Adelaide International<\/a>, after Jordan Thompson and Alex Bolt both fell on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

O'Connell defeated world No.48 Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets (6-3, 6-1), to stand alone for Australia in the men's singles draw.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old advances to the final eight and will face Sebastian Korda inThursday's quarter-finals.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The Aussie wildcard's impressive run continued\ufeff as he served 12 aces and didn't face a break point, taking the victory in just one hour.<\/p>\n

O'Connell's win was another confidence booster after a strong 2023 season, during which he advanced to six ATP-level quarter-finals\ufeff and rose to No.53 in the world, a career high.<\/p>\n

O'Connell will take on world No.29 Korda on Thursday from 11.30am (AEDT).<\/p>\n

Korda was a finalist in Adelaide last year.<\/p>\n

Thompson was eliminated at the hands of Italy's Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets (6-4, 6-1).<\/p>\n

Bolt also bowed out on Wednesday, defeated by American Tommy Paul in straight sets (6-3, 6-\ufeff2).<\/p>\n
