Rod Laver Arena will be allowed to fill approximately 50 per cent of its capacity per session for the remainder of the Australian Open<\/a> after the end of Victoria's five-day lockdown.<\/p>\n

After beginning the tournament with crowds in the stands, the Australian Open was forced to lock out the public due to Victoria's COVID-19 regulations.<\/p>\n

With the restrictions set to come to an end at 11:59 pm on Wednesday evening, the fixtures from Thursday through to the men's final on Sunday will see fans back in the stands and around Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n

Attendance will be capped at 7,477 per session, approximately 50 percent of Rod Laver Arena's capacity. Fans will be allowed access to the full site, including Grand Slam Oval and Garden Square.<\/p>\n

According to Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley<\/a>, fans will still be required to wear masks in the stands.<\/p>\n

"We're pleased with that amount. Having that number of people in the crowd makes a massive difference," Tiley told Nine News Melbourne.<\/p>\n

"The weather looks pretty good and we're just appreciative of the opportunity we've been given to have fans and we've got some great tennis coming up.<\/p>\n

"The direction from the Chief Health Officer is that wherever we are, we're wearing masks and carrying masks with us, obviously not when you're drinking and eating.<\/p>\n

"It will be a comfortable seating environment in the stadium." <\/p>\n
