She can definitely strike the ball very hard. The weather was in my advantage, a little bit more wind," Mertens said.<\/p>\n The Belgian player next faces Slovakia's Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova, who beat fellow qualifier Maria Camila Osorio Serrano 1-6, 7-6, 7-5.<\/p>\n https:\/\/twitter.com\/StanSportAU\/status\/1744162024622309573?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw<\/a><\/p>\n EUBANKS BOWS OUT IN AUCKLAND\ufeff<\/strong><\/p>\n In New Zealand, Chris Eubanks struggled with a muscle injury before being eliminated from the ATP Auckland Classic in the first round on Monday.<\/p>\n Fifth seed Eubanks needed courtside treatment for a glute muscle injury and lost 7-6, 6-2 to Botic van der Zandschulp.<\/p>\n It is not yet clear whether the injury will impact Eubank's Australian Open campaign.<\/p>\n The big serving American indicated he was in trouble late in the first set and called for the tour trainer.<\/p>\n He received treatment between sets and elected to play out the match.<\/p>\n But he looked limited at times and unable to run at full stretch.<\/p>\n Van der Zandschulp converted his third break point in the second game of the second set to lead 2-1 and broke again at 5-2 to take the match at his first opportunity.<\/p>\n "I'm pretty happy with my performance. I think I played a decent level overall," van der Zandschulp said.<\/p>\n "Chris is serving amazing and you have to keep up every time.
