Former Liverpool<\/a> captain Jordan Henderson is reportedly set to quit his $13 million contract in Saudi Arabia<\/a>, risking a massive loss in tax if he goes through with it.<\/p>\n

Henderson moved to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq\ufeff from Liverpool<\/a> after playing 12 seasons at the Merseyside club.<\/p>\n

According to The Daily Mail, Henderson \ufeffis eyeing off a return to the English Premier League<\/a> only six months after being sold for $22.7m.<\/p>\n

The England midfielder's move to Al-Ettifaq allowed him to work with former teammate Steven Gerrard who manages the club.<\/p>\n

Henderson was heavily criticised for making the switch given Saudi Arabia's stance on the LGBTQ+ community\ufeff and was booed by fans at Wembley during England's friendly against the Socceroos<\/a>. Henderson captained England in that game due to Harry Kane's absence.<\/p>\n

"When you see someone who has been an ally so publicly transfer to a club in a country where LGBT+ people are attacked and imprisoned, it is disappointing," Pride in Football, a network of LGBTQ+ fan groups, said in a statement after his move.<\/p>\n

"Good luck in Saudi Arabia Jordan, but you have lost the respect of so many people who valued you, and trusted you."<\/p>\n

However now he could return to England with Gerrard under significant pressure having not won a game for eight matches. \ufeff<\/p>\n

The reported salary of Henderson also included a tax-free element under Saudi rules, but that will only be available should he stay for the first two years of his contract.<\/p>\n

According to The Daily Mail, Saudi Arabia has a flat income tax rate of 20 per cent, with Henderson potentially left with a bill of $13.28m.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Despite the massive loss of money and \ufeffa pay cut facing him in the EPL, Henderson is reportedly willing to return such is his struggles to adjust to the new lifestyle.<\/p>\n

Chelsea manager \ufeffMauricio Pochettino was asked whether the club would be interested in signing the 2019-20 Premier League winner but didn't offer any hints.<\/p>\n

"We didn't talk about names. At the moment, we are not talking about players," he said.<\/p>\n

Chelsea are currently 10th in the Premier League after a massive spending spree in the summer transfer market.
