Germany has made it through to the final of the United Cup<\/a> after one of the all-time mixed doubles matches against Australia that ended 15-13<\/a> in a super tie-breaker.<\/p>\n

After Germany's Angelique Kerber won in the women's singles, and Australia\ufeff's Alex de Minaur secured a shock victory in the men's<\/a>, the mixed doubles loomed as the deciding match.<\/p>\n

Alexander Zverev backed up after his loss to de Minaur to team with Laura Siegemund. They won in the first set in a tie-breaker before Australia's Storm Hunter and Matthew Ebden fought back to win the second in the exact same fashion.<\/p>\n

A super tie-breaker to end it was a marathon affair.<\/p>\n

Australia was up 5-2 at one point but Germany fought back to have two match points at 9-7.<\/p>\n

The Aussies kept coming though and had match point again at 10-9.<\/p>\n

A rollercoaster of match points ensued from there with Germany having three match points after the set had passed 10 points, while Australia had one.<\/p>\n

Eventually, Hunter hit a shot long which booked Germany's spot in the United Cup final against Poland. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Late in the match, Zverev began to cramp but was the difference throughout the last set with his powerful serves.<\/p>\n

\ufeffAustralian mixed doubles grand slam winner Casey Dellacqua was in awe of the fact Zverev, the men's singles world No.7, persevered in the mixed doubles off the back of a three-set loss to de Minaur.<\/p>\n

"T\ufeffhis is a monumental effort from Zverev," she said on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n

"He has played so much tennis this week, singles, every mixed doubles and he's back out here tonight."<\/p>\n

Overall, the mixed doubles fixture went for two hours and 20 minutes. \ufeff<\/p>\n
