Rafael Nadal<\/a>'s time violation during his win against Jason Kubler<\/a> at the Brisbane International<\/a> left all those present in hysterics after his late return from a toilet break.<\/p>\n

Following the completion of the first set, Nadal left the court for a break. The maximum amount of time to use the toilet is three minutes, however there's an additional two minutes for change of clothes.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThis is a sizeable delay," Wally Masur<\/a> says on Nine's coverage as everyone waited.<\/p>\n

Time then passed at Pat Rafter Arena with umpire Arnaud Gabas liaising with an official via radio to check if Nadal was on his way.<\/p>\n

"Where has he gone?" Masur asked.<\/p>\n

Nadal then appeared with a shocked look on his face when he realised that he was late before discussing the matter with Gabas.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old was informed he'd received a time violation to which he asked why.<\/p>\n

Nadal appeared to argue the length of time it took him but the time violation still stood. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Both the umpire and Nadal laugh as it was handed out. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"As it should be, rules are rules, you can't bend them for anybody," Masur said. \ufeff<\/p>\n

After winning the match against Kubler 6-1 6-2, Nadal was asked to explain the reason behind his lateness but argued he was in time. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I think it was something strange (happened) because I know I have five minutes … Brisbane is very humid. I had to change every single piece … it takes a while," he laughed.<\/p>\n

"In the walkie talkie \ufeffthey were calling me three minutes, two minutes, one minute, half a minute, I came out at the right time.<\/p>\n

"But I don't know if the guy with me said a few seconds later to the umpire that I was four seconds late … I thought I was on time, then he told me I was four seconds late … I am slow, I know that, and I've got to keep trying to improve in 2024."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
