Former England<\/a> captain Michael Vaughan<\/a> has called for the ICC<\/a> to switch to the pink ball for all Test matches.<\/p>\n

Vaughan made the call following a "frustrating" bad light stoppage on day two of the third Test<\/a> between Australia<\/a> and Pakistan<\/a> at the SCG<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With a weather band moving in from the west, umpires suspended play shortly before 2.30pm local time as the light deteriorated.<\/p>\n

Tea was taken during the stoppage, before the rain arrived about 3pm.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Umpires offered Pakistan skipper Shan Masood the opportunity to bowl spinners in order to stay on the field, but he refused in order to keep Aamir Jamal in the attack.<\/p>\n

The second Test between Australia and the West Indies at the Gabba will be a day-night match played with a pink ball.<\/p>\n

Vaughan pointed out if the players are comfortable using the pink ball during day and night conditions in those matches, the ICC should make the switch permanently.<\/p>\n

At the very least, he suggested a change to the rules to allow a pink ball to be substituted in to allow play to continue.<\/p>\n

"We'll be using a pink ball in Brisbane, can't we get one out that's 47 or 50 overs old and carry on?" he said.<\/p>\n

"If the solution is that we have to play with a coloured ball that can be used in all light, and if we have to play with a pink ball going forward to make sure this doesn't happen, it's down to the game of cricket to come up with those answers."<\/p>\n

Earlier, as players walked off, Vaughan said had the match been a T20 or ODI played with a white ball, play would've continued.<\/p>\n

"It's one of my bugbears about Test cricket \u2013 we just seem to find a way of getting off the pitch at any opportunity.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"In T20, 50-over cricket, you stay out there, you go through it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It's an entertaining business \u2013 there's no threat to the batter.<\/p>\n

"Yeah you might get out, you might play a poor shot, but there's not been one ball where Marnus (Labuschagne) or Steve Smith have looked at the umpire and gone, 'I've not quite picked that up out of the hand'.<\/p>\n

"We have so many moments like this in Test cricket. There's a good crowd in here, a good Test match, and now the cameras are going to be on the balcony looking at players doing nothing."<\/p>\n

Aussie legend Adam Gilchrist agreed.<\/p>\n

"Even though Marnus didn't necessarily score off those short balls, he didn't look in any danger or he was intimidated," Gilchrist said.<\/p>\n

"It's frustrating for everyone involved. I don't think the players take any joy in saying 'yeah, we will go off', but from a tactical point of view Australia probably feel like they're bogged down.<\/p>\n

"Whether they're behind or not, the last thing they want to do is lose wickets and expose the fresh players coming out."<\/p>\n
