Luke Littler\u2019s history-making run at the World Darts Championship<\/a> ended when the 16-year-old sensation was beaten 7-4 in the final by Luke Humphries.<\/p>\n

The unseeded Littler would have become the youngest-ever winner of darts\u2019 biggest prize, but lost an epic match at the Alexandra Palace in London.<\/p>\n

At one point the teenager had the chance to take a 5-2 lead, but world No.1 Humphries came back to win five straight sets and his first world title.<\/p>\n

As runner-up, Littler won $371,500 in prize money and looks likely to contend for major titles for years to come. He made history by becoming the youngest ever finalist.<\/p>\n

"In the back of my mind I was thinking, 'get this one now, because he's going to dominate world darts soon'," Humphries said after the win.<\/p>\n

"He's an incredible player. When I was on the brink of sort of winning there he was just relentless.<\/p>\n

"He's an incredible talent, I had to win this one tonight. He's going to win plenty I'm sure."<\/p>\n

Littler was almost lost for words when asked what he had learned from his historic finals run.<\/p>\n

\ufeffHe is now set to join the professional circuit full-time, when he will still be only 17.<\/p>\n

"It's been unbelievable," he said.<\/p>\n

"I just couldn't hold my own throw, and I didn't win.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI'm happy, top 32, runner-up on my debut, it's unbelievable.<\/p>\n

"I might not get to another final for 10 years, we don't know, but now I can say I'm runner-up. Now I want to go and win it."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Humphries was the No.3 seed for the tournament and went into it on the back of winning three major titles in the space of two months.<\/p>\n

He will pick up the top prize of $936,000 for the win.<\/p>\n
