A\ufeffustralian punter Tory Taylor has put himself in the shop-front window for NFL<\/a> franchises, breaking an 85-year College Football<\/a> record during Iowa's clash against Tennessee on Tuesday (AEDT).<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a stellar career with the Hawkeyes and his time in the NCAA culminated during his side's Citrus Bowl defeat – but he etched his name into the history books in the process.<\/p>\n

During the first quarter of the clash, Taylor produced a 62-yard punt, which saw him reach the highest punting yards by a player since John Fingel in 1938.<\/p>\n

Taylor finished the season with 4479 punting yards from 93 attempts, putting him \ufeff341 clear of Fingel's long-standing record.<\/p>\n

The Melbourne-born product received plenty of praise on social media following his performance and has now become a "legend" at the university following his tenure at the collegiate level.<\/p>\n

Taylor is slated to enter the NFL draft later this year, which could see him picked up in the later rounds and head to the professional level.<\/p>\n

"The NFL has never really been a money thing … it's more about how I can take my game to the next level," he told reporters last week. <\/p>\n

"To be one of 32 punters playing and being the best in the world is one thing that is pretty appealing. \ufeff\n<\/p>\n

"A lot of people told me that I can always improve. Coming back to college, I feel like that has really helped me.\n<\/p>\n

"I have taken a couple of massive steps in the last 18 months.
\nIt's really helped me progress as a player, punter and person."\n<\/p>\n

The family of Pingel also passed on their congratulations to Taylor for his groundbreaking achievement.<\/p>\n
