C\ufeffonor McGregor<\/a> has officially revealed his plans for a return to the UFC<\/a> next year, with the former two-division champion slated to take on Michael Chandler.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old has been largely inactive in recent years, falling short in consecutive bouts with Dustin Poirier in 2021 and sustaining a gruesome leg injury, sidelining him for an extended period. \ufeff<\/p>\n

McGregor's last victory inside the octagon came in early-2020, defeating cult hero Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone, while his previous fight before that came in a losing effort against Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018.<\/p>\n

In a social media post on Monday morning (AEDT), the polarising Irish superstar revealed he would face Chandler at 185 pounds in the middle of next year, ending a lengthy hiatus from the sport.<\/p>\n

"Ladies and gentleman, a Happy New Year to you all. I would like to announce the return date for myself," McGregor said.<\/p>\n

"The Notorious Conor McGregor. For the greatest comeback of all time will take place in Las Vegas for International Fight Week on June 29th. The opponent, Michael Chandler.<\/p>\n

"The weight, Mr Chandler – 185lb."\ufeff<\/p>\n

McGregor has never fought at welterweight during his UFC career, while Chandler is yet to make the jump up from lightweight since signing with the promotion in 2021.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old American responded to McGregor's latest comments on social media and welcomed the challenge.<\/p>\n

McGregor and Chandler went head-to-head as coaches on a recent season of "The Ultimate Fighter", with their battles used to further promote an eventual fight between the two outspoken stars.<\/p>\n
