The BBL<\/a> match between the Melbourne Renegades<\/a> and Perth Scorchers<\/a> abandoned due to the state of the Geelong wicket will not be rescheduled.<\/p>\n

The match on December 10 was abandoned in the seventh over<\/a> after heavy rain the day before the match leaked through the covers at GMHBA Stadium.<\/p>\n

The "drenched" wicket produced horribly inconsistent bounce \u2013 particularly from a spot just outside off-stump at one end.<\/p>\n

A Will Sutherland delivery on a length that ballooned through to Renegades 'keeper Quinton de Kock<\/a> was the final straw before umpires intervened and stopped the match.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Sunday morning, Cricket Australia<\/a> said "various options" were explored to reschedule the match.<\/p>\n

"(But) it became apparent rescheduling would be challenging due to a variety of factors, including the existing schedule across the two clubs and limited access to venues," it read.<\/p>\n

Each side will be awarded a point. It was the first time in 555 BBL games a match had been abandoned due to an unsafe pitch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Footage captured fans throwing KFC buckets onto the ground when the game was officially cancelled.<\/p>\n

Both the Renegades and Cricket Australia promised fans refunds immediately after the match.<\/p>\n
