\ufeffT\ufeffim Paine<\/a> has blasted calls for Test players to feature more prominently in the Big Bash, labelling critics of the country's biggest names as "stupid".<\/p>\n

With the competition kicking off in recent weeks alongside the beginning of Australia's series against Pakistan, the intense cricket schedule\ufeff has seen a number of marquee stars unavailable for their BBL teams.<\/p>\n

Steve Smith<\/a> made a brief cameo for the Sixers<\/a> prior to the first Test, while it's expected David Warner will link up with the Thunder after his Test retirement in early January\ufeff.<\/p>\n

But while the lack of Aussie talent in the tournament has been questioned, Paine shut down suggestions the Test stars should make themselves available on any free day or night away from their Baggy Green commitments.<\/p>\n

"It's a two-hour game … don't compare it to Test cricket and what those guys are putting themselves through, it's absolutely ridiculous," he told SEN Radio.<\/p>\n

"They would be risking injury to get on a plane after a big night to come and play. It's stupid, there's a Test match that needs to be played next week."<\/p>\n

Paine explained the perspective of Cricket Australia, which is attempting to balance its domestic competition with the international schedule. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"What they (CA) have said to the clubs is \u2026 we will try and get players back playing in the Big Bash, only when we can and it's a good fit for them and their team." he said.<\/p>\n

"It's still going to be a huge ask for players playing a Test match, a five-dayer, then flying somewhere and playing the next day. There's so many variables in cricket compared to these other sports where it's totally controlled."<\/p>\n

Since retiring from playing, Paine has become assistant coach for the Adelaide Strikers, who are expected to be without the likes of Travis Head and Alex Carey for the entire BBL|13 campaign.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
