David Warner<\/a> has failed to replicate his first-innings heroics, instead falling for a duck as Australia returned to the crease on \ufeffday three of the first Test after rolling Pakistan for 271.<\/p>\n

Warner was \ufeffsent packing following a dominant day in the field for the hosts.<\/p>\n

After Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc struck late on day two, Lyon picked up another to inch closer to his 500th Test wicket.<\/p>\n

Having nearly had night watchman Khurram Shahzad run out with the first ball of the day, Pat Cummins picked up where Australia left off, \ufefftaking the debutant's middle stump with his third delivery.<\/p>\n

This brought Pakistan's biggest threat, run machine Babar Azam, into the middle to test Australia's patience in a strong partnership with Imam ul-Haq.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The undefeated opener brought up his half-century from 161 balls \u2014 the second-slowest 50 by a Pakistan batter in Australia.<\/p>\n

But with Australia's quicks frustrated, a change in tactics came off to dismiss Azam for 21. A delivery from hometown hero Mitchell Marsh kissed his outside edge before carrying through to Alex Carey.<\/p>\n

The wicket triggered a rapid middle-order collapse as Australia took 3-14 inside six overs before lunch.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Lyon claimed Test wicket No.498 with the stumping of ul-Haq before similarly grabbing No.499.<\/p>\n

\ufeffHowever, he could not reach his milestone this innings, finishing with figures of 2-66 as Travis Head and Usman Khawaja combined to take Pakistan's final wicket.<\/p>\n

With a commanding lead of 216 runs, \ufeffWarner and Khawaja returned to the middle with a session left to play on day three<\/p>\n

But disaster struck as Warner's usual hip shot was caught by ul-Haq at midwicket.<\/p>\n

\ufeffAfter scoring a century on the opening day of play, he mistimed a pull shot off his fifth ball, popping the ball up into the air for an easy catch.<\/p>\n

"Not today David Warner, see you in Melbourne," Ian Smith said in commentary for Fox Cricket.<\/p>\n

"Very ugly, very awkward."\ufeff<\/p>\n

In at No.3, M\ufeffarnus Labuschagne pulled up sore and immediately called for the trainer after a Shahzad delivery caught his right hand as he attempted to whip the ball down the leg side.<\/p>\n

His \ufeffpinky finger received some attention but he was able to continue batting.<\/p>\n

After looking in discomfort, \ufeffLabuschagne was dismissed for just two runs off 18 balls after finding Sarfaraz Ahmed behind the wicket.<\/p>\n

As Steve Smith boosted his rate, Pakistan picked up its bodyline attack.<\/p>\n

While getting battered, \ufeffSmith copped a nasty hit to his forearm from a bouncer, but also blasted a big six.<\/p>\n

Like Labuschagne, he received treatment \ufeffbut appeared OK.<\/p>\n

Khawaja will resume on day four on 34 not out while Smith is not out on 43. Their partnership is building nicely with 79 runs from 156 balls.<\/p>\n
