David Warner<\/a> has silenced the doubters in blistering fashion, notching up a mammoth 164 runs off 211 balls on day one of the first Test against Pakistan in Perth.<\/a><\/p>\n

Getting his farewell tour off to a dream start, Warner \ufeffsmashed his way to his 26th Test century off just 125 balls, sending a warning to the opposition that he's not giving up just yet.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old \ufeffwas also the subject of scrutiny in the lead up to the opening Test of the summer, after former teammate Mitchell Johnson took aim at the batsman in a vitriolic column<\/a> in which he questioned the batter's continued selection in the national men's team.<\/p>\n

"He wasn't guaranteed by George Bailey the chairman of selectors, to get to Sydney, but I think he's basically penned himself in with this knock here today," former Aussie opener Simon Katich told SEN Test Cricket<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"A magnificent hundred off only 125 balls, that's the thing. He's got Australia off to a rocking start here."<\/p>\n

Australian captain Pat Cummins lauded Warner's innings, which was headlined by 16 fours and four sixes.<\/p>\n

"It's what you expect from Davey when his back's up against the wall," Cummins said on Fox Cricket post-innings. <\/p>\n

"He put the pressure right back on the bowlers. It sets up this summer beautifully for him.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"You see him go back into his aggressive self and that's when he's playing his best.<\/p>\n

"It takes a lot of bravery to play the way he has."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Australia finished day one 5\ufeff-346 after 84 overs.<\/p>\n

Mitch Marsh (15) and Alex Carey (14) remain at the crease\ufeff heading into day two, with Cummins keen to add at least 100 more runs to his side's total.<\/p>\n

"We'll see how we go, we're in no rush at all. 350 is good, we'd love to get another\ufeff 100, 150 (runs), would be lovely," Cummins said.<\/p>\n

Pakistan however struggled through the first day, despite a stronger finish in the third session.<\/p>\n

But before the small fightback, they dropped Warner, struggling to bowl economically and missed a crucial stumping that allowed the Australians to steady themselves and make the visitors pay.<\/p>\n

As for Warner's special century, he has now moved to fifth for Australia's all-time runscorers in Test cricket.<\/p>\n
