NRL<\/a> clubs have slammed the door on Peter V'landys<\/a>' controversial 'code war' with rugby union.<\/p>\n

The chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission has been keen on allowing clubs to plunder the ranks of Super Rugby franchises for players<\/a> – with the extra incentive that any signings would be excluded from the salary cap.<\/p>\n

But after discussing the idea at a meeting last week, the 17 NRL clubs decided the concept was 'unworkable'.<\/p>\n

Some of the richer clubs were keen to explore the idea, but the less financially secure clubs believed it would put them at a greater disadvantage and voted against the proposal.<\/p>\n

The Roosters landed one rugby star last week – talented winger Mark Nawaqanitawase<\/a> – but that was more a case of the club striking back at the 15-a-side game for poaching classy outside back Joseph Suaalii.<\/p>\n

Sio, aged 33, recently signed a new deal with the Salford club, only to be released on compassionate grounds this week.<\/p>\n

Sio debuted for the Eels in 2011 and had four good seasons with the club before moving to Hull KR for two seasons in 2015-16.<\/p>\n

He then went back to the UK, spending the past five years at Salford where he became a favourite son.<\/p>\n
