S\ufeffteve Smith<\/a> has admitted his form at the ODI World Cup<\/a> and Ashes<\/a> series' were below his standards, as the former captain prepares for a home Test summer.<\/p>\n

The middle-order batter finished the one-day tournament with 302 runs at 33.55, including just two half-centuries. \ufeffHe did manage to score one century<\/p>\n

Despite a dip in form though, the 34-year-old didn't express any concern ahead of the first Test against Pakistan\ufeff<\/a>, offering a simple solution to fix his woes.<\/p>\n

"Just score runs," he laughed.<\/p>\n

"I don't have to reinvent the wheel, I've performed at a high standard for a long period of time.<\/p>\n

"I was probably below my standards of what I want so for me it's not overthinking it, not overplaying too much, not changing too much, just going out and trusting what I do \ufeffand doing it for longer periods of time to hopefully get the big runs and hopefully help our team have success."<\/p>\n

With his long-time teammate David Warner set to end his Test career after the Pakistan series, speculation has surrounded Smith's future in the format.<\/p>\n

Despite entering the back end of his career, Smith \ufeffwas keen to add to the 9,320 runs he's already accumulated in Test cricket.<\/p>\n

"I just take it day by day and enjoy my time playing," he said.<\/p>\n

"And while I'm enjoying it I'll keep playing. I'm not in any hurry to make any decisions or anything.<\/p>\n

"I'm pretty relaxed and looking forward to the summer."<\/p>\n

Smith also wasn't willing to enter into the discussion around David Warner and Mitchell Johnson after the latter criticised the opener over his form and selection in the Australian side. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I mean, everyone in the media is entitled to their opinion," he said.<\/p>\n

"But you know, I'm not buying into anything that is going on between those two, so I'll stay out of that one."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
