The Blackcaps<\/a> legend marked another step in his recovery after a heart attack and spinal cord injury by walking into a pub for the first time.<\/p>\n

It's been more than two years since he nearly died, ending up on life support in a Sydney hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cairns, now 53 years old, shared a video to Instagram of him walking into the pub on crutches with leg braces before steadying himself on a table.<\/p>\n

"Day 1 of many that lie ahead \u2026 what a team \u2026 I'm so blessed and cannot thank you all enough," he wrote with the hashtags "not done yet" and "how you endure".<\/p>\n

The video captain reads, "So … a Kiwi walks into a pub (after two-and-a half f—–g years!!!)".<\/p>\n

Cairs suffered the spinal cord injury after one of four open-heart surgeries<\/a>, which left him paralysed from the waist down.<\/p>\n

It's been a wretched run for the former all-rounder, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer just a week after being discharged from hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cairns played 62 tests for the Blackcaps as well as 215 ODIs and two T20Is between 1989 and 2006.<\/p>\n
