Alex De Minaur<\/a> has been crowned the 2023 John Newcombe medallist at Tennis Australia's night of nights.<\/p>\n

Although the 24-year-old was not in attendance at the awards held in Melbourne on Monday night, he filmed a short thank you video in honour of receiving the award for the second time in his career<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I'm very sad I wasn't able to attend the Newks this year,\ufeff" De Minaur said.<\/p>\n

"I'm extremely grateful for this amazing award\ufeff. This is one of those awards that, as a kid, you want to do everything in your power to achieve.<\/p>\n

"I'm extremely grateful for having such a great year to be able to have this great award."<\/p>\n

De Minaur, who is currently ranked 12th in the world, went on to pay tribute to his teammates.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Not only myself, but the whole of Australian tennis has had an incredible year. So much to look forward to, so much improvement," he said.<\/p>\n

De Minaur became an outright winner in 2023, after sharing the honour with Australian tennis champion Ash Barty back in 2018.\ufeff<\/p>\n
