Australia's men and women have topped their respective pools on the opening day of the Sevens in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

The women were particularly dominant on day one, steam-rolling Spain in their first contest 38-0 before demolishing Japan with an enormous 54-0 win.<\/p>\n

They capped the day off with victory over New Zealand, edging them out 26-19.<\/p>\n

Maddison Levi made history for the team by becoming the fastest Australian woman to 100 tries just a week after breaking her own record for most tries in a tournament.<\/p>\n

After victory in Dubai a week ago, there's added motivation for the women to continue their golden form.<\/p>\n

"We always go really well in Dubai, then come into Cape Town \u2013 we haven't really won it, we won the World Cup here," said Levi.<\/p>\n

"I think it's motivation to prove that we can do it on this soil. Tomorrow we move on to quarter-finals and we'll just try to keep the ball rolling."<\/p>\n

While the women went undefeated, the men fell shy of a sweep on Saturday.<\/p>\n

They started with a 27-7 victory over Samoa before losing to New Zealand, downed 35-5.<\/p>\n

Another big 26-7 win over Canada ensured they topped their pool as primary rival New Zealand faltered.<\/p>\n

They suffered two shock losses to Canada and Samoa, beaten 19-7 and 21-14 respectively.<\/p>\n

"We're riding the roller-coaster at the moment \u2013 we're up-and-down, up-and-down \u2013 but definitely happy in the way we're trending," said Australian back Maurice Longbottom.<\/p>\n

"To come back from a big loss to New Zealand and put on the performance we did today [against Samoa], we're pretty happy there.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Whatever happened today happened \u2013 rock up tomorrow with the same goal; win three games and come out with a medal."<\/p>\n

The Australian men will face South Africa in their Cup quarter-final while the women will face Ireland.<\/p>\n

Australia vs Ireland is scheduled for 6.22pm (AEDT) while Australia vs South Africa gets underway at 8.18pm (AEDT) on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n
