World No.1 Ash Barty<\/a> has lavished praise on youngster Olivia Gadecki after her stunning win over Sofia Kenin<\/a>, revealing that the 18-year-old pushed her during a pre-season together.<\/p>\n

Gadecki set the tennis world alight by shocking last year's Australian Open<\/a> winner at a WTA event at Melbourne Park, with Barty in the stands watching on.<\/p>\n

The pair spent the pre-season working together, and Barty was full of praise for the 18-year-old.<\/p>\n

"I'm incredibly proud of Liv. She's done so much work over the last few months," Barty said after her fourth-round win over Shelby Rogers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I invited her to do a pre-season with us, knowing that she's a brilliant girl first and foremost and then a hell of a ball-striker after that.<\/p>\n

"We had a really good three months of training together and she worked her backside off. She pushed me a lot not just on the court, but off the court as well.<\/p>\n

"I really enjoyed spending time with her. I've got a lot of respect for her and I just told her that I'm only ever a phone call away."<\/p>\n

Like Barty, Gadecki has also spent time away from the game, and the Aussie world No.1 said she has offered the youngster advice on having a break from the sport.<\/p>\n

"She stepped away from the game a little bit at a not too dissimilar age that I did, so talking about that experience from my point of view and sharing my story was nice," she said.<\/p>\n

"I have a lot of time for her as a human being, she's a great girl.<\/p>\n

"I'm just so proud of the way that she went out there and played and did it with a smile on her face and now she's got an opportunity to keep playing at a tour event."<\/p>\n
