Family and friends are mourning the loss of former\ufeff Mr Universe bodybuilder<\/a> Shaun Davis, who died aged just 57.<\/p>\n

Davis won the Mr Universe title in 1996 before he was forced to retire due to health issues.<\/p>\n

The British bodybuilder reportedly\ufeff received dialysis three times a week for kidney problems before receiving a transplant in 2009.<\/p>\n

Tributes poured in for the champion bodybuilder online with many "devastated" by the loss.<\/p>\n

"Just received terrible news from Helen Burrows the passing of my friend Shaun Davis," wrote close friend Kuldeep Bhardwaj.<\/p>\n

"I'm absolutely devastated. Rest in peace my friend.<\/p>\n

"You were a true inspiration right from the day I met you at school, through your amazing bodybuilding years and after.<\/p>\n

"Your smile and laughter will be missed."<\/p>\n

Davis, who weighed 150kg at the height of his career, won several competitions including the prestigious Mr Universe title in 1996. He also won Mr UK, Mr Europe, Mr Pro Universe and Mr Britain.<\/p>\n

In the years before his death, Davis urged people to sign up to the transplant donor register after his battle with kidney failure.<\/p>\n

"It really hammers it home, since the transplant, that more and more people are desperate for kidneys," he said in 2009.<\/p>\n
