Injury-riddled North Melbourne<\/a> forward-turned-defender Charlie Comben says he's seen his last "black cat" and "broken mirror", with his eyes firmly set on a round one comeback after a horror injury run.<\/p>\n

After breaking his leg in a horrific on field mishap in round seven of the 2023 season<\/a>, Comben has completed his first full session back in more than six months, a major milestone after poor luck with injuries.<\/p>\n

It comes as the Roos have been forced to relocate while their spiritual home, Arden Street, undergoes a redevelopment.<\/p>\n

Making the most of the chance to get away, the club has sent the side up to the Gold Coast, with the players, including Comben, feeling the heat, not just from the sunny weather.<\/p>\n

"It's been a long road back, about six months off. It's good to join in with the lads and get me full first one (session) out today," Comben said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

As for the recovery after his leg break, Comben admits it's been mentally challenging just as much as it has been physically.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeff"It's definitely taken a toll. Tough. But it's good to be back out there and training now," he said.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old \ufeffsays he's finally ready to move on from the bad luck he believes has overshadowed the beginning of his AFL career, which has been stalled at just four games despite being on North's list since 2020.<\/p>\n

"I chalk it down to bad luck\ufeff. Hopefully it's all behind me. Seen black cats, a few mirrors broken, I think I'm sweet now," Comben said.<\/p>\n

Comben is poised to fill the hole left by key defender Ben McKay, who was traded to Essendon on a monster six-year deal worth a reported $1.5 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n
