England Lionesses<\/a> manager Sarina Wiegman has baulked at claims that the Scotland women's football team are considering tanking their upcoming Women's Nations League game against England.<\/p>\n

England is the nominated nation to qualify for next year's Paris Olympics on behalf of Team GB \u2014 the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic Team \u2014 but needs a huge victory over Scotland to keep its Olympic dream alive.<\/p>\n

If England is successful in qualifying, players from all four home nations are eligible to represent Team GB at Paris 2024, including Scotland.<\/p>\n

This has prompted suggestions that a heavy defeat to England could actually be beneficial for Scottish players wanting to represent Great Britain at the Olympics. <\/p>\n

"There's no way Scotland is going to give away this game," Wiegman said, who will be at the helm of Team GB's football team in Paris.<\/p>\n

"That is absolutely not going to be the case \u2014 there's such a rivalry. If you have seen our group, seen Scotland and know the history of Scotland and England.<\/p>\n

"They really want to beat England and we want to beat them."<\/p>\n

If they lose against England, Scotland will finish at the bottom of group A1 having failed to win a match throughout the competition.<\/p>\n

However, a win for England could allow the side to top the group and advance to February's semi-finals where another win would be enough to secure a place at the Olympics.<\/p>\n

England currently sits second in the group and trails the first-placed Netherlands on goal difference.<\/p>\n

With the Dutch holding a three-goal advantage ahead of their home match against Belgium, even if England defeats Scotland, they may have to do it by a considerable amount to make headway.<\/p>\n

England can also qualify if it wins the third place play-off to finish third as long as Olympic hosts France reach the Nations League final.<\/p>\n

With speculation gaining traction online,\ufeff Scotland's captain Rachel Corsie labelled the tanking suggestions "disrespectful" and "outrageous".<\/p>\n

\ufeff"A lot of people outside have spoken about it and truthfully I think it is so disrespectful," she said.<\/p>\n

"To have played for my country for as many years as I have, to know the girls that sit in there, the ones that want to be here, the ones who can't be here through injury, I think it is absolutely outrageous to question anyone's integrity and I think it is a huge insult to us.<\/p>\n

"I understand why the question is being asked but, for us, the motivation is playing for your country.<\/p>\n

"It's difficult to understand if you've never experienced it but when you have experienced it, you don't need extra motivation. It is absolutely the pinnacle of the sport to represent your nation so that will absolutely be the motivation tomorrow, to be pulling on the Scotland jersey."<\/p>\n

Scotland's coach Pedro Martinez Losa also echoed Corsie's thoughts.<\/p>\n

"I don't feel happy about the questioning of the integrity of the Scottish players," he said.<\/p>\n

"The situation is one we cannot change, a situation we have been brought into. I wish it could have been anticipated or we could have changed it.<\/p>\n

"I do not think there is any other feeling that will be on the pitch. I wish this were not the situation, I am not sure what the solution will be in the future but I do not want my players to be in this situation."<\/p>\n
