Tearaway quick Lance Morris has revealed the nonchalant manner in which he was told of his selection \ufeffin Australia's first Test squad<\/a> as he nears a debut.<\/p>\n

Morris was part of the Australian set-up last summer and toured India with the side but stress fractures in his back meant he missed an Ashes call up.<\/p>\n

'\ufeffThe Wild Thing' as he's known has been earmarked for a big future in the baggy green and it appears the exciting phone calls are no longer with chairman of selectors George Bailey<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Quite casually over a text," he laughed when explaining how he found out.<\/p>\n

"I was sort of hoping that would be the case. Obviously being managed through cricket, was hoping \ufeffit would build up to a selection but you never know.<\/p>\n

"I got a text from George the other day saying well done and welcome back, it was awesome."<\/p>\n

Bailey spoke on Sunday afternoon that it was 'unlikely'<\/a> the Western Australian would play at Perth\ufeff but the young fast bowler still gave an insight into how he'd perform if chosen.<\/p>\n

"I'll give it a red hot crack, hopefully run \ufeffin and bowl fast on what is an ideally spicy Perth Stadium," he said speaking at the BBL<\/a> launch.<\/p>\n

"We'll see how we go on the day, \ufeffI think there'll be a fair bit of adrenaline running through the veins, I just hope the first one hits the cut stuff."<\/p>\n

Throughout the Sheffield Shield season, Morris has been managed by Australia's high performance staff, playing only three out of five matches. \ufeff<\/p>\n

The youngster revealed he did manage to play a grade cricket match for Scarborough though, taking 3-26 and 1-55. He confirmed he was aware of a potential Test call-up before striding out at Hillcrest Park. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"Unofficially yes, so trying to bubble wrap myself a little bit," he said. \ufeff<\/p>\n

With Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood likely to form the nucleus of Australia's bowling attack\ufeff, Morris' path to a Test debut appears blocked in the short-term with Scott Boland and Michael Neser also on the fringes.<\/p>\n

The fast bowler admitted he has had "itchy feet" in the past watching on as a squad member but knows his role is to simply be there "in case someone goes down".<\/p>\n

However, he doesn't think his timing towards a Test berth is necessarily bad. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I don't know about that, I think \ufeffmy timing has gone all right compared to some people," he said.<\/p>\n

"Obviously there's been some really strong Shield performers over the last five to 10 years and I've only been around for three so I think I've timed it all right hopefully."<\/p>\n

With Perth Scorchers first game against Melbourne Renegades on December 10, Morris wasn't sure if he'd feature too prominently for the side, with that depending on his Test commitments.<\/p>\n

"I think with the shortened format with 10 games, I'm not 100 per cent sure how the dates line up \ufeffor what things look like but if I can slide in for the back end of the tournament, that'd be awesome," he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
