Australian swimmer<\/a> Matt Temple has shattered the national record in the men's 100m butterfly with a time that would have won gold at every Olympic Games<\/a> bar Tokyo 2020, hitting his rivals with an ominous statement ahead of Paris 2024.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old ripped a time of 50.\ufeff25 seconds to win gold at the Japan Open on Sunday night, breaking the Australian record of 50.45 already belonging to him.<\/p>\n

He's now ranked No.1 in the world in the men's 100m butterfly and is the only swimmer to have registered a sub-51-second time this season.\ufeff<\/p>\n

His time of 50.25 would have earned bronze at Tokyo 2020, behind American world record holder Cae\ufeffleb Dressel and Hungary's Kristof Milak.<\/p>\n

Temple is now the sixth-fastest swimmer in history in the men's 100m butterfly.<\/p>\n

The\ufeff Victorian, who finished equal fifth at Tokyo 2020 with a time of 50.92, posted splits of 23.47 and 26.78 in Japan on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Australian Olympic Games champion Kyle Chalmers was thrilled with the record-breaking result of his Dolphins teammate.<\/p>\n

"This right here is my idol!" Chalmers wrote on Instagram with a picture of Temple.<\/p>\n
