A sideline official at an NFL<\/a> game has had his leg brutally broken in a collision with a player on Monday morning (AEDT).<\/p>\n

Midway through the second quarter of the clash between the New Orleans Saints<\/a> and Detroit Lions, Saints running back Alvin Kamara ran the ball left and was pushed over the sideline by the Lions defenders.<\/p>\n

He appeared to land on the official's lower legs, and they both crashed to the ground.<\/p>\n

Cameras caught the official in agony, clutching at his leg which was bent at a horrific angle, before it quickly cut away.<\/p>\n

Wide World of Sports has chosen not to show the injury.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The game was paused for several minutes while the official was attended to on the sidelines, before he was stretchered away.<\/p>\n

"A member of the chain crew was injured and will not return," a statement from the NFL said.<\/p>\n

"The chain crew will operate with one fewer member for the remainder of the game"<\/p>\n

The chain crew, also known as the chain gang, operate the three poles that delineate the forward line, the rear line and the line of scrimmage on the sidelines of NFL games.<\/p>\n

Although Kamara would score two touchdowns and rush 51 yards, the Lions went on to win the clash 33-28.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
