F\ufeffreshly re-signed Australian rugby sevens<\/a> ace Maddison Levi<\/a> snared seven tries in three games as her side blitzed the pool stage of the season-opening Dubai round.<\/p>\n

Levi's try-scoring prowess was on show in the UAE as the Australian women's team thrashed Brazil 39-0, Japan 66-0 and Ireland 33-5 to finish at the top of pool B and cruise into the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n

The 66-0 hammering of Japan marks the biggest-ever victory in women's sevens history.<\/p>\n

The Australian\ufeff men's side also bagged a spot in the quarter-finals, grabbing a 25-7 win over Spain after falling to the Irish 19-12 and Argentina 31-14.<\/p>\n

Just over a week after the Levi sisters, Maddison and Teagan\ufeff, re-committed to Rugby Australia until the end of 2026, Maddison took just 45 seconds to hit the scoreboard, running in a try against Brazil.<\/p>\n

"We have to defend her [Levi] all the time at training and it's no easy task, that's for sure," said Australian captain Charlotte Caslick.<\/p>\n

"She's just so fast, and then she's also very strong and powerful, so if she doesn't go around you she's often going through you.<\/p>\n

"We love coming to play in the desert.<\/p>\n

"We're really happy so far with the team performance."<\/p>\n

Former high school sprint champion Kaitlin Shave<\/a> also shone in the pool stage, burning\ufeff Brazil with her scorching pace as she scored a try on her Australian debut. The speedster zipped around the Brazilian defence on the left wing and streaked away to score, giving Australia's opponents a taste of the damage she's capable of inflicting this season and at the Olympic Games in Paris.<\/p>\n

Faith Nathan grabbed five tries in the three games and\ufeff Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea rocked Australia's opponents with thumping defence in the middle of the park.<\/p>\n

The women's team will face the USA in the quarter-finals from 5.36pm on Sunday (AEDT), before the men's side takes on\ufeff South Africa from 5.58pm.<\/p>\n
