The iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground<\/a> looks poised to host two Tests<\/a> in one summer to celebrate the anniversary of the game.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe Age and Sydney Morning Herald report<\/a> Cricket Australia has "reached terms" with New Zealand's governing body to extend its 2026-27 tour to four matches.<\/p>\n

That means Melbourne will certainly host one – as well as Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney – given Brisbane is out of action due to 2032 Olympics preparations.<\/p>\n

England will then travel Down Under to play at the MCG in March to mark the 150th birthday of Test cricket.<\/p>\n

A Melbourne Cricket Club spokesperson told the Nine newspapers, "Discussions with Cricket Australia continue but nothing has been determined yet for 2027".<\/p>\n

The March Test may also impact the AFL, given Victorian's premier football competition is moving its season forward and the MCG is the showpiece stadium in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

The AFL, and Cricket Australia, declined to comment when contacted by The Age.<\/p>\n

The first ever Test cricket match was played at the MCG in March 1887 between Australia and England.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe venue hosted a centenary Test in 1987, featuring an appearance from Queen Elizabeth.<\/p>\n
