Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has hit back at Australian fans after he was criticised for his comments after the World Cup<\/a> final.<\/p>\n

Kaif was left in disbelief after Australia's upset victory<\/a>, and struggled to accept how India had managed to lose \ufeffon home soil.<\/p>\n

"I can never accept that the best team has won the World Cup," he said on Star Sports.<\/p>\n

"The Indian team is the best team on paper."<\/p>\n

The 13-Test representative copped plenty of heat on social media with David Warner<\/a> notably hitting back on X.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI like MK, issue is it does not matter what's on paper. At the end of the day you need to perform when it matters," he wrote.<\/p>\n

"That's why they call it a final. That's the day that count and it can go either way, that's sports. 2027 here we come."<\/p>\n

Following backlash from his comment, Kaif told Australians to "relax" on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

"Facts: It was Australia's day in (the) final, they won, they are World Cup winners," he wrote.<\/p>\n

"More facts: India comprehensively won 10 games, they lost (the) 11th\ufeff, they had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament's best team.<\/p>\n

"Both facts, on paper and on field. Relax Australia."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Kaif's reply comes after Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin revealed on his YouTube channel a conversation he had with Australia selector George Bailey around Pat Cummins<\/a>' decision to bowl first at the toss.<\/p>\n

The call from the Australian skipper left experts confused at first but was justified by a World Cup final victory and Bailey's conversation into the tactical nous of Australia's brains trust.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI met George Bailey the chairman of selectors and asked 'why didn't you guys bat first like you always do after winning the toss?'," Ashwin recounted.<\/p>\n

"For that he answered back \ufeff'We have played IPL and bilateral series' for a long time now and in our experience the red soil disintegrates but the black soil gets better to bat on under lights'.<\/p>\n

"In the match against South Africa at Lucknow, it was a red soil pitch that didn't just seam but turned too as time went by. Dew is not a big impact in red soil pitches whereas black soil pitches are good turners in the afternoon but in the night the pitch solidifies into a patta wicket and plays as though it is made of concrete.<\/p>\n
