S\ufeffam Kerr<\/a> chalked up a hat-trick as Chelsea<\/a> triumphed over Paris FC 4-1 in its Women's Champions League<\/a> group stage match at Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n

Having drawn their opening match with \ufeffReal Madrid last week, Kerr invigorated her side on home soil to kick-start their European campaign.<\/p>\n

The striker opened the scoring in the 30th minute following a lethal cross from Lauren James before the visitors levelled through a header to fullback Th\u00e9a Greboval ahead of the main break.<\/p>\n

While still returning to full fitness after suffering a calf injury ahead of Australia's opening World Cup match, Kerr continued her red-hot form in the second half with two goals in seven minutes.<\/p>\n

First, the West Australian \ufeffpoked another superb cross into the back of the net, this time from Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, before rounding off her hat-trick performance with an unbelievable looping chip from outside the box.<\/p>\n

"I fancied her to score a hat-trick tonight," Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said.<\/p>\n

"I felt like she doesn't get credit for all the other bits she does. While she's not, by her standards, at top level yet, I don't know anyone who puts the ball away like she does. She's so alert and decisive with her movement."<\/p>\n

With her treble, \ufeffKerr has now scored 13 goals in the group stages of the Women's Champions League which is the most of anyone in the competition.<\/p>\n

Substitute Sophie Ingle added a fourth goal in stoppage time, scoring direct from a corner, as Chelsea secured the necessary three points to sit second in the Group D standings behind leaders BK Hacken.<\/p>\n

Despite the score-line, \ufeffParis FC never let up, creating several dangerous opportunities.<\/p>\n

Paris FC's Mathilde Bourdieu and Julie Dufour were denied goals by smart saves from goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger in the first half, while Louise Fleury squandered a chance in the second.<\/p>\n

An unmarked James also had an opportunity to edge Chelsea ahead earlier but skied her effort over the crossbar.<\/p>\n

Hayes' side was far from their best but seemed to improve as the match wore on.<\/p>\n

Looking messy in possession, the will team need to raise the bar if they are to clinch the championship for Hayes, the only title she is yet to win with the club before she departs to take over the United States women's national team in May.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"We have a history of [winning when not at their best]," Hayes said.<\/p>\n

"I think the thing I enjoyed the most was \u2026 the adaptability. The players are tactically flexible."<\/p>\n
