Yet, there was always somebody willing to test his mettle and see if he had the fighting ability that made his grandfather a global figure.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt wasn't like an every day thing but there was always some person that wanted to see if I could fight," Ali Walsh told Wide World of Sports. "There's always that one guy that wants to challenge you.<\/p>\n
"I might have been 14 or 15 years old and I was at a friend's house, and he had a gym there. <\/p>\n
"One of the kids wanted to box me really bad. He kept saying he wanted to box and he was much older than me, a senior in high school.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
"I was kind of intimidated and said I was kind of tired and wanted to sleep. But everyone there, the crowd, encouraged it and I was like, 'Yeah let's put on some gloves'. We put on the gloves and we just went at it.<\/p>\n
"That was one of the more profound moments because the kid was so much older than I was, and I was intimidated. But I gave him quite the beating."<\/p>\n
Ali Walsh held a passion for American Football instead, playing running back in the US collegiate system and clocking a time of 4.38 sec in the 40m sprint, which is NFL type-speed. However, things did not go to plan.<\/p>\n
"I was dealing with a lot of political stuff in football. I never really got an opportunity to play that much," he said.<\/p>\n

"I might have had like two snaps in two years in college football. I came from Bishop Gorman. Had some accolades there. So I was confused."<\/p>\n
\ufeffUnfortunately things hit a downward spiral when he was left disillusioned by his inactivity on the football field.<\/p>\n
"After football I was depressed, I didn't know what to do with my life," he explained. "And this is normal a lot of people go through this. I was going out a lot.<\/p>\n
"I was drinking, trying different drugs. It was a tough time. I wasn't there mentally. I used to drink my problems away really and act like an idiot."<\/p>\n
A period as a strength and conditioning coach helped provide a path for the aspiring fighter, although he felt something was missing.<\/p>\n
"The guys I was coaching were still going to the gym where I'm at now. I missed competing," he said.<\/p>\n
"I missed working for something. At that moment in life I was really trying to find something to do.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
"And the only thing that really excited me was to go train at the gym. Go learn how to fight. I think that's what really changed course for me was acknowledging that the only time I felt excited was when I was going to the gym.<\/p>\n
"This sport really did change my life. It brought me closer to God. Helped me emotionally, mentally."<\/p>\n
Ali Walsh knows his connection to arguably the greatest athlete of all time has opened doors for him, but he's also aware of the comparisons that people may draw and the criticism that may bring. As for his goal for his bout against Lopez?<\/p>\n
"My first fight I got the first fight jitters. I wasn't really breathing, I was just trying to brawl," he said.<\/p>\n
"I wasn't patient. I wasn't relaxed I was very tense. The second fight the focus was just to be calm and relaxed. It helped a lot.<\/p>\n
"Each fight I just wanted keep improving. That's the main goal. This next fight, God willing, I'll be able to display a whole bunch of improvement than my last fight."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
