Former Australian captain Ian Chappell<\/a> has provided a grim warning for Pakistan<\/a>'s tour of Australia after Babar Azam quit as skipper<\/a> following a failed World Cup campaign.<\/p>\n

The first Test between the sides will be played in Perth, starting December 14, with Pakistan having never won a series in Australia.<\/p>\n

Shan Masood will lead his country in the three-match series, becoming Pakistan's ninth Test captain since 2009.<\/p>\n

Chappell said it is "typical" of Pakistan to have that sort of drama leading into an away series. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"\ufeffYeah that's a pity, I think Babar's a very good player," he said on Wide World of Sports' Outside the Rope<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

"He's not leaving the Pakistan side and maybe they can find a better captain. But it's typical of Pakistan, they change captains (frequently)."<\/p>\n

Pakistan last toured Australia in 2019\/20 as the home side cruised to a 2-0 victory, winning by an innings in both games.<\/p>\n

Babar scored 1 and 104 in the first match before following it up with 97 and 8 in the second.<\/p>\n

New captain Masood finished with scores of 27, 42, 19 and 68.<\/p>\n

The last series between both sides in 2021\/22<\/a> was celebrated as a landmark moment with Australia travelling to Pakistan for the first time since 1999. \ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffAustralia finished with a 1-0 win in the three-Test series, claiming the Benaud-Qadir trophy.<\/p>\n

Chappell believes Pakistan will have to quash a major blemish if they're to have any success.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The problem with Pakistan is they don't have a \ufeffgreat record in Australia, even when they had good sides who could bat and bowl," he said.<\/p>\n

"They've got some good quickies at the moment but the bounce of Australian pitches has always troubled them.<\/p>\n

"If you look at the \ufeffAustralian side, they might be on the wane a bit, particularly when Warner goes but they've still got a very good attack and it's a good pace attack.<\/p>\n

"Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood, those blokes will worry Pakistan with that extra bounce."<\/p>\n
