Kylian Mbapp\u00e9<\/a> scored a hat-trick as France<\/a> routed Gibraltar 14-0 for the biggest-ever victory in European Championship qualifying on Sunday morning (AEDT).<\/p>\n

Veteran French striker Olivier Giroud came off the bench to score twice as Les Bleus broke the 13-0 record set by Germany against San Marino in 2006 for Euro 2008 qualifying.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team played extraordinarily well today,\u201d Mbapp\u00e9 said after taking his international tally to 46 goals.<\/p>\n

On his international debut, teenage midfielder Warren Za\u00efre-Emery became France's youngest-ever goal scorer before he went off injured against a Gibraltar side that played most of the match with 10 players following an early send-off.<\/p>\n

Previously, France's greatest win was 10-0 against Azerbaijan in a European qualifying game in 1995.<\/p>\n

The only negative note for France was the injury to Za\u00efre-Emery, the latest prodigy to break into the national team. However, coach Didier Deschamps said initial tests showed the injury was not too serious.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were worried because the ankle flared up quickly," he told French broadcaster TF1.<\/p>\n

\u201cScans showed there is no fracture, but it's a pretty big sprain. I'm sure he'd rather remember his first appearance for his goal than for anything negative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Za\u00efre-Emery started and confidently finished the move in the 16th minute to become France\u2019s youngest scorer at 17 years and 255 days. The Paris Saint-Germain player limped off after defender Ethan Santos trotted on his right ankle just as Za\u00efre-Emery smacked the ball into the top-right corner. Santos, who had scored an own goal in the third minute, was sent off.<\/p>\n

World Cup runner-up France was already through to Euro 2024 as the winner of Group B. This was a seventh straight win for the national side, with 27 goals scored and just one conceded.<\/p>\n

Rock-bottom Gibraltar has lost all seven matches and allowed 35 goals.<\/p>\n

Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram poked home France\u2019s second goal after just four minutes. Following Za\u00efre-Emery's fine goal, Mbapp\u00e9 made it 4-0 from the penalty spot in the 30th after a handball.<\/p>\n

Right back Jonathan Clauss drilled in a fine shot from 20m, right winger Kingsley Coman struck from close range and midfielder Youssouf Fofana\u2019s shot went under the goalkeeper\u2019s body to make it 7-0 after just 37 minutes.<\/p>\n

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot turned in the eighth following a goal-mouth scramble and Coman\u2019s deflected effort made it 9-0 midway through the second half.<\/p>\n

Winger Ousmane Demb\u00e9l\u00e9 netted before Mbapp\u00e9 side-footed home and then brilliantly lobbed the goalkeeper from 44m out to make it 12-0 in the 82nd minute.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d been watching [the goalkeeper] for 20 minutes and he was always far off his line," Mbapp\u00e9 said. "I\u2019m not sure why.\u201d<\/p>\n

Giroud still had enough time to extend his national scoring to 56 goals with a close-range bicycle kick as Les Bleus exceeded Germany's record.<\/p>\n
